OUR RC ACTIVITIES
OUR RC ACTIVITIES

Air Water Performance Chemical is proactively promoting Responsible Care (RC) in the fields of occupational safety and health, safety and disaster prevention, distribution safety, chemical and product safety, environmental protection, quality assurance, and dialogue with society.
Here we showcase the seven RC activity areas in which Air Water Performance Chemical is engaged.
Occupational Safety and Health
As a company that handles chemical substances, Air Water Performance Chemical places the highest priority on the safety and health of its employees and is engaged in a variety of activities designed to prevent industrial accidents and improve the environment in which employees can work with peace of mind. As a result of their efforts over the course of a year, workplaces that have achieved zero accidents (zero accidents resulting in shutdowns or loss of work time) and workplaces that are recognized for their exemplary achievements are given awards in the hopes of further raising safety awareness and improving safety standards.
We have been working to build a monitoring system by providing inexperienced employees with training and helmet identification for a period of one year after joining the Company. We also check the working environments and mental and physical conditions of our employees, including through work environment measurements, various health examinations, and stress checks, with the aim of creating working environments in which employees can work safely for a long time from the time they join the Company.

【Examples of Safety and Health-related Initiatives】
<Safety>
- Safety patrols by management and Safety and Health Committee members
- Safety and health education (safety education for unskilled and senior workers, risk assessments, the reporting of close calls, risk prediction training, training in the methodology developed in Japan to improve efficiency and productivity known as 5S —Japanese terms for sorting, setting in order, sweeping and cleaning, sustaining cleanliness, and self-discipline—and the sharing of safety information, etc.)
- Safety awards
<Health>
- Stress checks
- Regular health check-ups・Special health check-ups
- Work environment measurements
Safety and Disaster Prevention
We have drawn up business continuity plans (BCPs) and action plans in preparation for a variety of contingencies, including fires, chemical leaks, earthquakes and tsunamis, an eruption of Mount Fuji, the typhoons and river flooding that have caused great damage in recent years, and pandemics. We conduct disaster prevention drills based on the BCPs and action plans we have created and are prepared to ensure the safety of local residents and employees in the event of an accident or disaster. Based on the results of the drills, we conduct reviews of our plans to ensure that we can respond rapidly in times of emergency.
We not only conduct disaster prevention drills in-house but also actively participate in joint disaster prevention drills with relevant government agencies, such as the Kawasaki Coastal Zone Wide-Area Disaster Prevention Drill held by the Kawasaki Coastal Zone Disaster Prevention Council. In addition to helping to strengthen cooperation with the relevant organizations, these assist in establishing an effective information exchange system and raise awareness of disaster prevention.
In our daily activities, we also strive to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of our employees by inspecting, patrolling, and providing safety education on high-pressure gas, hazardous materials, chemical equipment, and electrical facilities.

Distribution Safety
To prepare for any accidents that may occur during the transportation of chemicals, we provide emergency contact Yellow Cards to transporters. These contact cards contain information that enables those involved in accidents, such as transporters, police, and firefighters, to safely deal with the situation.
To accommodate cases where it is difficult to carry a Yellow Card, such as when shipping mixed loads, we also print and attach a Container Yellow Card (Label System) on the exterior packaging of the products.
We also regularly provide safety training and audits to each transporter, share points at issue and points for improvement, and work to improve distribution safety and quality.

Chemical and Product Safety
To ensure that our customers handle our products safely, we provide them with safety data sheets (SDS) and hazard and toxicity information. We also support the communication of information on the chemical substances contained in our products via the chemSHERPA scheme and provide analysis results for RoHS directives upon request.
We handle a variety of chemical substances and conduct chemical substance risk assessments at each workplace. We evaluate the health risks of the chemical substances we handle and take measures to reduce the risk of workplace accidents caused by chemical substances.
To prevent accidents and disasters, we regularly provide training sessions every year, covering areas that include the dangers of chemical substances and protective equipment, deepening employees’ expertise in the proper handling of chemical substances.

Environmental Protection
Having obtained ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems, for our Head Office and all our plants, we are committed to protecting the environment.
We promote a variety of environmental protection activities that reduce the environmental impact associated with our business activities, such as the prevention of air and water pollution, the reduction of their environmental impact, reducing the amount of waste generated and the recycling of that waste.
With regard to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, we are working to reduce them throughout our supply chain by, for example, improving productivity, switching to energy-saving equipment, boiler fuel conversions, utilizing renewable energy by installing solar panels, and promoting a modal shift in transportation.

Quality Assurance
Having obtained ISO 9001 certification, the international standard for quality management systems, for our Head Office and all our plants, we promote quality management and quality improvement activities.
Plants that handle food additives are strengthening their food safety (food defense) efforts by obtaining certification under the HACCP version of food additive good management practices (GMP) and implementing food safety management based on HACCP techniques. Furthermore, our shelf life improving agent sodium acetate has been awarded halal certification, so that Muslims can consume it with peace of mind.
In addition, we are working to further improve quality by not only observing compliance regarding products and services, but also by raising the level of quality control to reliably and quickly meet customer quality requirements. Measures include the sharing of information on problems and horizontally deploying countermeasures at quality committees, 5S patrols, quality education, and holding a quality month every November as an awareness-raising activity

Dialogue with Society
We have been endeavoring to disclose information and communicate by posting our RC activities on our website, interacting with local residents’ associations in the vicinity of our plants, and participating in various council meetings in which nearby companies participate.
